Evangel Baseball Camps

Head Coach Sam Jones

Evangel University President Dr. Mike Rakes announced Monday the hiring of Sam Jones as the 15th baseball coach at Evangel.

"Sam stood out during the search process and was very dynamic. I am excited to see his work ethic and vision for the program play out at Evangel," said Rakes. "He loves the Lord and has an infectious enthusiasm for baseball and his players."

Jones is a two-time state champion head coach at Denver Christian High School where he amassed a record of 76-22. His teams reached the Elite Eight in all four seasons and are coming off back-to-back Colorado State Championships in 2023 and 2024 while also earning Colorado High School Coach of the Year honors.

"I'm incredibly honored to have the opportunity to lead the Evangel Baseball Program," said Jones. "It's a privilege to begin the work with our guys and instill an uncommon culture which will lead to success both on and off the field. We will look to exemplify class in everything that we do and have pride in the Evangel Baseball program while respecting the game and playing it the right way. God has given us an incredible opportunity to make His name known through this sport and we will be relentless in our effort to do so."

Previously, as an assistant coach at NCAA Division II Metro State University, he worked with infielders and the offensive game plan. As the first base coach with the Roadrunners, their win total improved each season. Jones was also actively involved in recruiting, camps, and showcases for the university.

Concurrently, Jones has been the general manager and head coach of the Denver Generals of the Mile High Collegiate Baseball League since 2017. Producing over 80 wins in five seasons, the Generals have finished in the top three, four times during his tenure.

"I am excited to put together an outstanding staff to walk alongside the young men in our program and help equip them for baseball and life," added Jones.

Jones played four seasons at NCAA Division II Colorado Christian University. He was an academic all-conference selection as a junior and a senior for the Cougars and served as team captain his senior year.

Jones and his wife Kayla have one son, Mack.
